Homeless Basset Blog U.S.A.

The Mission of Basset U.S.A. is to place every single Basset in the United States & Canada into a loving and caring home. All 50 states working together for a common goal. Basset U.S.A. is a Not For Profit Venture. We estimate what we will pay in taxes and donate it back into Basset U.S.A.

Hurricane Katrina brought this national problem to light. 6-9 months even after Katrina had left Louisiana and Mississippi devastated, the homeless Bassets were devastated even more, no homes, no owners, sometimes no food or water, no medical attention unless they were lucky enough to be found. A lot of these were just puppies not even a year old, no Mother, No father and no Human family to be found.

Thank Goodness for the Volunteers. The Volunteers helped find these lost Bassets, cleaned them up, saw to it they got medical attention, were identified as best as possible and then put on a nationwide web site to help re-unite them with their lost families. Some were re-united but more were not. Sometimes these little lost Bassets didn't even have anybody to come look for them. Just completely forgotten about.

Month after month, everything possible was tried to re-unite these beautiful Bassets with their families with the majority having no luck at all. The Rescues came to the rescue by taking them in, all over the United States. Get your tissues ready! Here's one story about a little 3 year old Basset named "Hurricane". Click on Hurricane to read the full story.

The Rescues do a fantastic job of placing almost all of the dogs they take in with loving and caring homes. Sometimes things do not work out. Most of the time things work out great, like in Hurricane's case.

Basset U.S.A. was created to help close the gaps missing that have been left open:

Rides Across America help put volunteer drivers together in different states to make sure a homeless Basset gets safely to their new home. Basset U.S.A. mission is to help find more volunteers to help out the incredible job the Rescues are already doing, plus add more Basset foster homes to every Rescue in every state.

Impossible? maybe, we don't think so. It's something we have dedicated ourselves to. It's a mission we fully believe in, to work hand in hand with all of the Basset Rescues across the U.S.A. Our company is running on auto-pilot so we do have the time to dedicate ourselves to this huge worthwhile project. It's not going to be a short run, like a sprint. This is a marathon like has never been undertaken before. We Are Committed. For any animal Rescue we will help in another way by helping with your web site hosting. Our servers cost us $8.50 per month and only the rescues get that special price passed on to them to help them save some more money that can be put back into benefiting the Bassets.

The Daily Drool is an incredible asset that we hope to help us make this happen. Thousands of Basset lovers read each others' posting on a daily basis. Nancy Gallagher started this incredible newsletter about 1994 with about 5-6 other AOL users that had a love for Bassets.

For those that have never owned a Basset, you have no idea what you are missing in your life. One continuous laugh after another. they are always up to something. One of their inherent traits is to Counter-Cruise for anything that tastes good and is not locked down or being watched. After they have claimed their prize, then they usually take off running and go hide with their plunder and savor their prize. I know we almost lost the Thanksgiving Turkey one year!!! Not just a leg, but almost the entire turkey!!!

Nancy & her Daily Drool followers had no idea that their Basset daily newsletter email would grow into what it is today, numbering into the thousands of people that faithfully read  every line. These are the same people that can make Basset U.S.A. into a reality. The Daily Drool is a very informative and helpful daily newsletter designed to help new and old Basset owners cope with the daily deeds of this lovable and precious dog.

Some of the pictures of these bassets on the first 2 rows are not with us anymore but they enriched our lives while they were here. Most Bassets can get along with almost any other pet.

getting into the garden is just one of things they do to make us laugh and smile, especially when it's caught on camera. They make friends with all other breeds, some just have no fear.

The Basset is the absolute Perfect dog for any family.

Our Volunteer page has tons of information how anybody can volunteer just a little bit of their time each week and the rewards are paid back immensely. The Volunteer page also has dog diseases and training tips plus Dog Names for Bassets, yes Lightning and Thunder are already listed. Don't forget about Flash!

A BASSET'S PRAYER

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me. Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do. Speak to me often, for your voice is the worlds sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear. When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshiper. Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger. And, beloved master, should the great master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest - and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

"Remember I'm yours Please Take care of Me"

The Rainbow Bridge

It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of it's many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge is a land of meadows, hills and valleys, all of it is covered with lush green grass. When a beloved basset dies, the basset goes to this lovely land. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. There, the old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole once more. They play all day with each other, content and comfortable. There is only one thing missing. They are not with the special person who loved them on Earth. So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! Then, the nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! You have been seen, and that one suddenly runs from the group! You take him or her in your arms and embrace, Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then, together, you cross the Rainbow Bridge, never again to be separated.
